Afsaneh Box I

This introduction to a three-part narrative about my aunt shows her departure from our home in southwest London where she raised me.

The sequence began six months before Afsaneh's death when I took a portrait of her and my one-year-old son Faris in the chair below the portrait of my grandfather. As they moved to the side to play on the sofa, I noticed her imprint on the cushion and decided to make one more photograph.

On the 11th August 2013, Afsaneh would suffer a stroke in that same room. Fate had brought Faris, Joceline and I by her side for those final moments.
